The Competition:
Blue Trail Design Jam (Winner), 2012

The Big Idea:
Similar to Candy Chang’s “Before I Die” chalk board, the Message In A Bottle Project gives people an interactive (physical and digital) platform to share their personal hopes and dreams for the ocean’s future with as many people as possible.

The Nuts & Bolts:
Employing art, design, science and technology, Message In A Bottle is a user-activated chalkboard and SMS mash-up. Using a monumental cutout of an iconic plastic bottle, the installation invites people to easily share their sustainable wish for the ocean (and society’s) future through analog (chalk) and/or digital (texting) means.
